- 1 lb pork ground
- 1 lb beef ground
- 1 onion diced
- 2 cloves garlic minced
- 1 cup oats steal-cuts
- 2 cups water
- 1 tsp black pepper
- ΒΌ tsp marjoram
- Oil for frying optional
Brown the ground pork: In a large pot, brown the ground pork and beef over medium-high heat. Drain any excess fat.
Cook until softened: Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
Bring the mixture to a boil: Stir in the steel-cut oats, water, salt, pepper, and marjoram. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Allow to cool: Remove from heat and let the mixture cool for 10-15 minutes.
Shape the mixture: Once cooled, shape the mixture into patties or a loaf.
Cook the goetta: Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add a little oil. Cook the goetta patties or loaf for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
Allow to cool: Remove from heat and let it cool for a couple of minutes.
Serve the goetta: Slice the goetta loaf or patties as desired and serve warm.
